Dead marine animals have begun washing up on the coast of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu since a container ship burnt and sank, raising fears of a severe marine disaster.

Graphic footage filmed on June 19 showed the carcasses of several sea turtles and the body of a whale washed up on the beaches of the southern Indian state.

Ecologists believe the deaths may have been caused by the release of hazardous chemicals while the Singapore-flagged X-Press Pearl burnt for 12 days off Sri Lanka’s main port in the capital Colombo.

Scores of turtles have also been found dead on the beaches of Sri Lanka since the sinking of the vessel which ecologists have described as an "environmental disaster."

A cargo that was carrying toxic chemicals caught fire on May 20 th in the costal areas of Srilanka. As it contained tons of toxic cargos all of the toxins were discharge in the ocean. And this posses a big threat to the aquatic life of Coastal Tamilnadu.


Many tortoise and a whale s corpses were seen in the shores of Rameshwaram a coastal area that is located in Ramanadhapuram District.

Center for fish research officials were informed about this and they took samples of the fishes that was caught in the sea to check whether it carries any toxic substances.

And the fisherman was asked to informed if they find any suspicious floating substances on the sea
