Residents of the Langa township in Cape Town protested during peak hour traffic and brought traffic to a standstill. They were protesting against failed service delivery in the area after recent rains caused raw sewerage to flood their informal structures. They allege the City of Cape Town has ignored their pleas for proper drainage and sanitation systems. They have vowed to continue protesting on Jakes Gerwel Drive which separates them from Bonteheuwel until the councillor listens to their demands. Jakes Gerwel Drive is one of Cape Town's most important arterial roads for thousands of commuters on a daily basis.
