Four labourers had a lucky escape when they were rescued from beneath a landslide during road construction work in Berhampur in Odisha state on Sunday 27 June.

In total, up to 13 workers were trapped in the landslide in the Digapahandi area when the culvert they were working on collapsed.

But fire-fighters arrived on the scene quickly and rescued four of them soon after, with the help of a digger. Two of those workers, who are believed to be in critical condition, were admitted to hospital.

Two other labourers are so far confirmed to have died.

Rescue work to free the others is ongoing, involving Sankhemundi Fire Department, Digapahandi Police, and other officials.

As many as four labourers had a providential escape after they were trapped following a landslide during road construction work in Berhampur.

A team of fire-fighters soon reached the spot and rescued the labourers trapped within the debris with the help of a JCB machine. Two of the workers who are believed to be in critical condition have been admitted to hospital for treatment.

More than 10 to 13 workers trapped under the ground in the Digapahandi block of Ghaiguda while the culvert was under construction.

When the culvert work was under construction at that time it was collapsed and almost 10 to 13 workers trapped under that. Rescue work continued.

Sankhemundi Fire Department, Digapahandi Police, Digapahandi Tahsildar reached the rescue work. Rescue work continues on a JCB machine.
