A huge waterspout whirled around near a resident's house on a lake in Indonesia.

Dark clouds were spotted sucking in clear blue water at Lake Diateh, West Sumatra province on Sunday afternoon (June 27).

Fitra Kamal, a passenger in a car driving past the lake, filmed this natural phenomenon.

She said: "Behind the whirlwind there is a house about 50 meters away. We are afraid that the wind will move to the edge of the lake."

The house remained unscathed by the waterspout.

Dark clouds sucking in clear blue water floated above at Lake Diateh, Solok Regency, West Sumatra province on Sunday afternoon (June 27).

Fitra Kamal, a passenger in a car passing by on the road by the lake, filmed this natural phenomenon.

She got out of the car to film the movement of the whirlwind.

According to Fitra, they are worried that the whirlwind will move to settlements at the foot of the hill on the edge of the lake.

"Behind the whirlwind there is a house about 50 meters away. We are afraid that the wind will move to the edge of the lake," Fitra said.

Fortunately the waterspout remained in the lake and didn't move to the edge where there were houses of residents that could be easily damaged if they turned into a tornado.

The Kembar Lake sub-district official, Eka Putra, said that this incident only happened briefly.

According to Eka Putra, the waterspout grew for a few minutes, then started to lose its strength before completely disappearing after almost 15 minutes.

"A bigger waterspout in this lake happened in July 2015," added Eka Putra.
