Panic ensued among the locals when an elephant strayed into a residential region in Sri Lanka's North Central province on June 24. The incident took place in the Ehetuwewa locality.

A video features fear-gripping the locals upon spotting an elephant in their proximity. They gather around at a safe distance to witness the jumbo straying towards a plantation. Then, the mammal crosses a street at its own pace while the locals turn their vehicles around and take a u-turn. Later, the jumbo retreats to the woods after exploring the region.

The elephants in the region are known for straying off their corridors to look for food. They often invade the residential areas, ensuing panic among the locals.
