The drought-stricken Southwest is getting some relief from afternoon thunderstorms. A long-overdue monsoon weather pattern is causing the storms to develop over higher elevation areas and then move toward lower elevations. This thunderstorm recorded outside the remote Great Basin National Park in Baker, NV, near the border with Utah, brought heavy rain and lightning. Visitors to the park had to be wary of lightning and potential flash flooding. The storms are expected to ease by the 4th of July weekend.
