An expert snake rescuer caught five beautiful baby grass snakes recently in the garden of a home in northwestern India.

Footage filmed on June 21 in Pune in the state of Maharashtra shows Saidas Kusal catching the tiny reptiles and later releasing them in a nearby wild area.

"The baby snakes would not have survived in the backyard, so it was important to move them to the wild quickly," said Kusal.

A resident of Pune in western Maharashtra spotted three baby green grass snakes in her backyard on June 20. As the snakes were non-venomous, she caught them and set them free in a nearby forest.

The next day she saw more baby snakes and called rescuer Saidas Kusal to thoroughly check the area. Saidas removed the debris that had piled in the backyard, dug up the area and even flushed the burrows with water to eject the hiding snakes.

A two-hour long effort yielded five adorable baby green grass snakes, which he released in a natural habitat later.

Saidas said: “Grass snakes usually lay up 10 to 15 eggs. Though I was expecting more babies, this was what I could find. The baby snakes would not have survived in the backyard, so it was important to move them to the wild quickly.”
