HEMET - On 06/30/2021 just before midnight, Hemet Fire Department responded to reports of a traffic collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Acacia Ave and Gilmore St in the city of Hemet, Riverside County, California.

Arriving crews located a dark colored pickup truck with heavy damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and a Hemet Police Department Ford Crown Victoria crashed into an electrical pole. The police cruiser suffered major front end damage in the crash. The officer driving the vehicle and the driver of the pickup were uninjured.

The driver of the pickup was detained at the scene due to suspicion of being under the influence. Following field sobriety testing, the subject was taken into custody for DUI.

Acacia Ave was closed in both directions of travel as crews worked to remove the wrecked vehicles and clean up the roadway which was littered with personal belongings and alcohol containers that flew off the pickup when it crashed.
