A leopard that accidentally plunged into a 20-feet-deep well in Madhab Nagar, northeastern India, was rescued by officials.

Footage from July 1 shows the leopard in neck-deep water staring up at locals and officials before its rescue.

The leopard was later released into the wild after officials managed to haul it out of the well using ropes.

A leopard that strayed itself into the human world got stranded inside an open well after plunging inside it in northeastern India's Assam on July 1. The incident took place in Madhab Nagar near Garbhanga forest in Kamrup district.

Visuals feature the leopard looking mortified after falling into the open well amid the greenery. The big cat further struggles to stay afloat and exhausts itself in the neck-deep water. It then gazes right into the eyes of its saviors with terror in its heart after it frantically attempts to stay on the surface to avoid drowning itself out of distress. Fortunately, the rescuers manage to save the stranded mammal and cover its face with a piece of cloth while securing ropes and nets around it to restrain its movement.

The adult leopard was out on a prowl, blissfully unaware of the impending drama ahead. After a while, it falls inside the 20-feet deep open well, following which the villagers heard its roar, indicating that a mammal is on the loose nearby. In the meantime, they alerted the forest officials as the big cat was in a terrible situation and needed help as its eyes were widened out of fear of drowning.

Fortunately, the team of rescuers arrived and managed to protect the carnivore, whose life was hanging by a thread inside the well. They further wrapped it up inside a net, only for it to be freed in the forest. Moreover, these open wells should be kept close because it is posing a threat to the wildlife as such incidents have become quite common.
