An elephant sent ripples of panic among residents after it got astray from its herd and entered insode a village in the Gopalbandhu block of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha.

The residents swung into action and chased the mammoth away from inside the village fearing it may wreak havoc destroying houses and property.

The forest officials were also raised an alarm but within moments the villagers were able to chase away the tusker towards the forest by pelting stones.

One of the forest officials said that they were monitoring the movement of the pachyderm and waiting for it to join its herd.

The officials also educated the villagers to avoid throwing stones towards the tusker as it can irk the animal bringing threat to life and property.
