‘England fans have come from everywhere’: Three Lions supporters in Rome discuss COVID-19 rules and Ukraine clash

Two Spain-based England fans in Rome have joked that tonight’s Euro 2020 quarter-final against Ukraine could be the only time in history that English expats can make their friends in back home jealous due to COVID-19 regulations effectively banning Three Lions fans from the game.

A small following of England fans is expected inside the Stadio Olimpico due to Italy’s COVID-19 regulations allowing those living within the European Union and low-risk countries to enter the country without quarantine requirements. This measure resulted in many England expats across the continent to snap up remaining tickets that were returned to UEFA amid the measures.

Speaking outside the Colosseum, the two England fans, based in Spain, also said that they had brought documentation with them to prove that they live within the European Union and have not been to the United Kingdom within the past weeks.

Both bought tickets for Saturday’s match before flying out from Spain and said “England fans have come from everywhere” to be there, including from Romania, Austria, Switzerland and as far afield as Dubai.
