The Mountain of Hell bike race, the mass-start downhill competition that begins on the top of a glacier in the northern French Alps, took place on Sunday (July 4) and saw the usual chaotic scenes.

The enduro freeride event, which takes place in the resort town of Les 2 Alpes, was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic but video captured from this year's event saw cyclists crash as they slide and crash into each other as they take a particularly perilous corner.

The course starts from the glacier of Les 2 Alpes at a height of 3,200m, descending 2,300m over 20km of tracks that take in snow, ice, shingle and rocks.
