Two pig-tailed macaques take part in coconut picking race during Thai festival
This is the moment two pig-tailed macaque took part in a coconut picking race during a festival in southern Thailand.
Footage shows the two monkeys speeding up on the coconut tree in Chumphon province.
Both the macaque continued to throw the hanging coconut down as part of the activity for the local Buddhist festival.
Onlooker Uraiporn Thongnumjued said: ‘It was fun watching the monkeys climb up during the festival. They were moving up so fast.’
Thailand controversially uses trained monkeys to harvest coconuts from the top of palm tree. The coconuts are then used for producing coconut milk.
