At a media briefing at his home in Nkandla, former South African president Jacob Zuma, provided reasons why he refused to hand himself over for incarceration. Zuma was convicted of contempt of court for refusing to testify at the State Capture Commission chaired by Judge Raymond Zondo.

Amongst the reasons Zuma provided was an alleged bias towards him by Judge Zondo and stating that being imprisoned at his age during the Covid 19 pandemic is tantamount to sentencing him to death.

Zuma was sentenced on 28 June and given five days to hand himself over, failing which police were to execute a warrant for his arrest.
