A snake expert last week rescued a beautiful banded krait from a village pond in northeastern India.

Locals called for help after spotting the 5.5-foot (1.6-metre) reptile swimming around in the water near their homes in Jajpur in Odisha state.

The rescuer travelled to the village and waited several hours until the 1.5-kilo snake swam to the side of the pond so that he could haul it onto dry land.

The expert later released the reptile in a natural environment far from humans.

Although shy, banded kraits have a powerful venom that is easily capable of killing an adult human.

BANDED KRAIT ( BUNGARUS) RESCUED.

One Banded Krait of 5.5 ft. is rescued by snake help line official from the village pond under JAJPUR district of East coast India . After getting a call from a villager the snake helpline member started his journey to the spot with his snake catching instruments. There he saw that the snake was swimming in the pond with catching a ‘water snake’ in its mouth .It was difficulty for him to catch the snake from the water. So snake help line official waited there for some hours. At last the snake came towards the embankment of the pond and moved towards a bamboo bush. Then it became easy for him to rescue the snake. Till rescue, the snake was catching the prey- ‘water snake’ .According to snake help line member, the snake was 1.5 kg. weight approx. and its length was 5.5 ft. After rescuing the snake, he released it near a safest environment, where the snake can live peacefully.
The Banded krait (Bangarus) is a species of elapid snake found on the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is the largest species of kraits, with a maximum length up to 2.7 mtrs.(8ft.10 inches).The Banded Krait is the most poisonous snake in world ,several times more venomous than the cobra. They have highly potent neurotoxic venom, which can induce muscle paralysis.
