Violent protests in KwaZulu-Natal have escalated as a mall in Pietermaritzburg has been set on fire on Monday morning.
Police have also closed the N3 highway due to the ongoing violence in the area.
Protesters are calling for the release of former president Jacob Zuma.
In Gauteng, sections of the M2 Highway are closed after protesters blocked the road with burning tires and rocks.

The RTI's Zinhle Mngomezulu says they are currently closing New-England Road.

"The reason being, Brookside Mall is still burning and we were made to understand is that gases might burst. Now we are trying to protect motorists, We are closing the freeway in that area. Proceeding up north, Tweedie is also closed. If you are traveling from Joburg to Durban, it is not going to be easy."
