A bird entangled in kite string atop an 80-feet-tall tree in Pune, western India, was rescued by officials.

The bird was spotted by locals who called the fire brigade to rescue the animal.

The firefighters managed to cut down the branch the bird as stuck on and animal rescuer Saidas Kusal, who was on standby, collected the animal.

Kusal cut the string that was wrapped around the bird's wings and feet.

Finding that it had just minor injuries, he decided to set it free.

Kusal said: "Kite strings, which are illegally toughened with glue and crushed glass, kill thousands of birds every year in India. Though they are banned, officials have failed to stop people from using these strings in kite-flying competitions.”

This footage was filmed on July 12.
