An ongoing dispute between mini bus taxi organisations has led to shots fired at the Cape Town Central Station.

Heavily armed police and metro officers searched vehicles at the taxi rank. The dispute has seen 9 people killed thus far as the worst affected are the passengers who are left without an alternative transport means. The mini bus taxi industry is a largely informal private service providing transport to the bulk of the country.

City of Cape Town Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, Jeanne Pierre Smith says there has been no confirmed acts of looting despite an attempt in Khayelitsha last night.
