A huge barge loaded with 6,000 tons of nickel ore partially capsized near Batu Gong Beach, Indonesia, on July 14.

It is suspected that a rope from a tugboat pulling the ship broke as large waves battered the 270-foot barge.

Local residents were seen using netting to prevent any nickel ore from washing up on the beach.

An investigation has been launched to find the owner of the barge.

A 270-foot barge loaded with 6,000 tons of nickel ore nearly capsized at Batu Gong Beach, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

This ship almost sank because it is suspected that the rope from the tugboat that was pulling it broke when it was hit by big waves accompanied by strong winds in the waters.

The owner of the barge is not yet known, but Konawe security authorities have launched an investigation to find the owner of the barge.

As a result of this single accident, nickel ore spills contaminate Batu Gong Beach. This nickel ore pollution can harm marine life in these waters.

Seen in the video, residents are trying to collect nickel ore spilled from inside the barge using nets so as not to pollute the entire ocean.
