The major drought in California is causing alarmingly low water levels at some of the state's lakes.

This drone footage shows Shasta Lake in northern California on Wednesday (July 14) where a boat ramp now stands a football field away from the water's edge.

"The boat ramp parking lots were empty of boaters in what would usually be a very busy summer boating season," said filmer Larry Richardson.

"The few boaters who want to launch their crafts are driving down makeshift dirt roads to reach the shore," he added.

Shasta Lake's alarmingly low water level is visible from I-5 as it traverses the lake. California is experiencing a magadrought that is forcing water conservation measures throughout the state and resulting in wildfires. This video features drone footage of a few boats cruising near the I-5 bridge on the lake. It also features the Hirz Bay boat ramp in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, The ramp appears to be suspended at least a football field, probably more, above the lake's new shoreline.
