Police officer rescued dog amid massive floods that left London submerged
A police officer has gone viral after rescuing a dog after the pet got trapped in the London floods.
Slawomir Kos, 38, captured the moment around 5 pm on Monday (12 July) on Belsize Road in Kilburn, north-west London.
In the video, an unknown female police officer can be seen wading through the water and crouching down to retrieve a dog trapped in the flooded street.
She hands the pup back to its owner before continuing on with the recovery efforts.
As the camera pans around, basement-level flats can be seen almost completely submerged, with water gushing down the steps.
People can be seen up to their knees in the water in some parts of the road, while cars are partially submerged.
The video has been viewed 261,000 times and racked up more than 9,000 likes – with viewers flocking to the comments section to laud the police officer’s actions.
One person said: “This is so British – get the dogs first.”
“We love dogs so much in the UK,” agreed another viewer.
Someone else commented: “Saving the dog – this makes me very happy.”
One viewer said: “Well done to the policewoman but omg this is so so sad to see. People’s property destroyed.” [sic]
Other people were stunned by the intensity of the downpour and damage caused.
One person said: “I've never seen this before in London, it’s shocking, feeling sorry for the people there.”
“That looks biblical…blimey hope everyone is safe,” another viewer added. [sic]
Someone else said: “Is it the end of the world or something?”
