A man stumbled across a pool of strange-looking shrimp while he was hiking through the Wave, northern Arizona.

Nickolas Warner filmed as he picked up a few tadpole shrimp before placing them back into the water.

This species is considered to be living fossils as they have changed very little in the past 70 million years.

This footage was filmed on July 13.

After hiking to the famous Wave rock formation in Arizona, I came across pools of water that were filled with strange looking shrimp.

These are prehistoric tadpole shrimp who have remained unchanged for 300 million years.

Their eggs can lie dormant in the sand, waiting until a heavy rain (which can sometimes take decades) which will then allow them to hatch.

These murky pools of water held hundreds of these odd, wriggling shrimp. Many say these are living fossils, straight from the time of dinosaurs.
