A Filipino inventor broke a world record for longest flight by hoverboard.

Kyxz Mendiola, 40, flew the personal aircraft across a beach for seven minutes and 22 seconds or a 2.89km distance in Zambales province, the Philippines on July 10.

Footage shows the drone and flying car enthusiast glided on his electric hoverboard 30ft above the ground, over water and fishing boats, while wearing a safety suit and helmet.

The flight surpassed the Guinness World record set by French Jet ski champion Franky Zapata who was able to fly a jet-powered hoverboard across a distance of 2.25km in 2016.

The delighted inventor and professional hip-hop dancer said: ‘Our flight data indicated that we actually achieved 2.89km. I could not believe it. It was more than what we were expecting.

‘Our original goal was to fly across 2.5km. It was so overwhelming and I could not believe that it will go that far. My message to the young generation is don’t let other people stop you from achieving your dreams.’

The feat is yet to be officially recognised by Guinness but it has already been submitted by the inventor’s team for validation.

Aside from the hoverboard, the inventor is also busy working on their prototype of the flying car called the Electric Manned Aerial Vehicle (EMAV).

The flying car prototype would be the country’s first-ever known flying car once it passed the safety and standards test.
