Fans eager to see the back of current owner Mike Ashley have become disgruntled at the way in which the Premier League is said to be preventing the sale of Newcastle FC to another party. By protesting outside Downing Street and handing in a petition they hope Boris Johnson will put pressure on the Premier League to be more transparent in their handing of the matter. The fans claim that the proposed takeover bid by a Saudi backed consortium is in the best interests of their club. Boris Johnson has previous raised concerns over the activities of Premier League club owners, notably when the so called big six failed in their attempt to join a European super league.
