Gran Vía metro station reopens in Madrid after over 1,000 days closed for renovations
Madrid's Gran Via metro station in Spain has reopened after on Friday 16 July, after more than 1,000 days closed for renovation work.
Around 10.7 million euros (12.6 million US dollars) has been invested in the project and eventually around 66,000 passengers are expected to pass through the new space every day.
The doors of the station reopened at 6am local time.
Now the station sports a futuristic appearance and more open space.
What stands out the most is the expansion of the main lobby, which goes from 900 to 2,000 square meters, and the connection with the RENFE de Sol Cercanías.
The station is also fully accessible, with four elevators and 13 escalators.
