Vaccination of Pregnant Women begins amid the shortfall of vaccines in India

Health workers administered Covishield vaccine dose to pregnant women during COVID-19 vaccination drive at a government hospital in Beawar, Rajasthan, northern India on Saturday (July 17, 2021). Many pregnant women receives their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
Amid the shortfall of vaccines, Indian government started inoculation of pregnant women in the country. Till now, pregnant women did not have any shield of protection against Coronavirus disease as they were not eligible for vaccination.
During the second wave of Covid-19, a lot of pregnant women had died of the virus.
According to health authorities, symptomatic pregnant women are at an increased risk of severe diseases and it might affect the foetus too. Hence, the Covid vaccine is recommended for pregnant women.
