An angry elephant in South India turned on people trying to chase it into the forest, by chasing them back.

The incident happened on 11 July after a herd of elephants destroyed crops in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh state.

Locals and Forest Department staff tried to chase the elephant back into the forest by making noise and setting off fire crackers. But having been separated from its herd, the animal was distressed so it charged its tormenters.

The public immediately ran away from the giant animal.

One elephant was left alone by the herd and it was quite angry as it was divided from its herd. Later people made noises and bursted crackers to chase it away but the angry elephant charges the public.

Scared people ran immediately to get away from the elephant.
