Epileptic man found dead in abandoned house after reports of his whereabouts went unanswered by social services
A man suffering from epilepsy due to being bitten and scratched by a bear found dead in an abandoned house in Indonesia.
The victim was found by the house's owner and Civil Service Police Unit officers when they were going to take him to the Social Service on Saturday (17/7).
Fajar, the house's owner in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province, said that a few days earlier he saw someone without a residence permit in the house when he was going to clear the grass that was growing wild in the yard.
"I reported the presence of a person who looks sick and is suspected of having a mental disorder to the Social Service, but there is no response," Fajar said.
He then reported the man to the Civil Service Police Unit officers for help, however, the house's owner and officers found the victim had died in a semi-naked state, lying stiff in the front room.
The victim's aunt who came to the scene said that the victim was Deni Osmond alias Budi Bear (39), who worked as a parking attendant in the Japanese Cave tourist attraction area.
"The victim has suffered from epilepsy since being attacked by a bear several years ago. The victim often wanders alone and rarely comes home," said Tanti, the victim's aunt.
The head of the Bukittinggi city police, Adjunct Commissioner Dedy Adriansyah Putra, said that from the initial investigation, the victim was thought to have died from his illness.
"There were no signs of violence on the victim's body," Dedy said.
