Four workers were rescued by a crane after they had became stranded in rapid floodwater in Uttarakhand, northern India.

The men had been working on a bridge in Shyampur but were left trapped after floodwater surrounded them while they were sleeping.

A crane was used to pick the men up and return them to safety on July 18.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on July 18 rescued four workers from the construction site of a bridge in Shyampur area of Haridwar in state of Uttarakhand. According to a police official, “Four labourers, who were sleeping, got stranded when water level in Pili river rose all of a sudden due to heavy sudden rain.”

The incident happened in the early hours of July 18 and SDRF was quickly deployed for the rescue mission. Rescue officials ordered a crane from National Highways Authority of India and rescued the workers.
