3,306 lbs of cannabis seized from van in southern India
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a sharp spike in smuggling cases in southern India's Andhra Pradesh on July 16. The incident took place in Elesvaram in the East Godavari district.
Visuals feature the officials recovering several sacks filled with marijuana from the smugglers in broad daylight while all the narcotic items are stacked on the roadside to keep a check on them.
East Godavari district Superintendent of Police (SP), M Rabindranath Babu, and Peddapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Aritakulu Srinivasa Rao, commanded the Elesvaram police, to inspect the vehicles at the pond embankment, following which 1,500 kg (3,306 lbs) of cannabis from 50 bags were recovered and seized.
