Indonesian officials on Monday (July 19) caught a wild Sumatran tiger that had been terrifying workers on an oil palm plantation in West Sumatra.

According to the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency, they caught the one-year-old tigress in a trap box after five days of unsuccessful attempts.

According to locals, the big cat made several recent appearances at the plantation and nearby settlements. She was even filmed chasing a worker's car.

Officials said they would take the tiger to Bukittinggi zoo to be assessed by experts prior to being released.

A Sumatran tiger was rescued from an oil palm plantation area after terrorizing plantation workers in Indonesia.

In footage filmed in Pasaman Barat, West Sumatra, Monday (19 July) shows a wild Sumatran tiger in a trap box set by the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in an oil palm plantation.

The head of the BKSDA West Sumatra, Ardi Andono, said the tigress, aged about a year, entered the trap box after the BKSDA handled the conflict for five days.

“The female Sumatran tiger is named 'Kanti Marama' which we have been waiting for 5 days. We brought it for observation and checks at the Bukittinggi zoo. Then we will do a rapid assessment for the release," Ardi Andono added.

Before entering the trap box, the Sumatran tiger Kanti Marama often appeared in oil palm plantation areas and in plantation workers' settlements.

Last Wednesday, Kanti Marama was caught on a worker's phone camera when the tiger chased the worker's car.
