A large flock of birds (mostly seagulls) were observed circling wildly beneath storm clouds above Sheerness in Kent this afternoon (July 20).

This seemingly strange behaviour, which has occasionally been reported before prior to some major storms (such as before Storm Ophelia hit Ireland)- is according to several websites due to the effect of rising thermal updrafts that can occur during stormy weather conditions.
