A heavy landslide in the mountains of eastern India has blocked a national highway near the Chinese border.

The landslide took place in the Kimkhola area of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand on July 22.

The incident took place during morning hours on the Tanakpur-Tawaghat national highway, and traffic was stopped beforehand as locals noticed the section of hillside was at risk of crumbling.

Rakesh Tiwari, a local man, commented that: "It's been raining for the last couple of days and such landslides happen during these times, the roads was cleared by evening for the traffic."

The incident happened on 22nd July during morning hours at Tanakpur -Tawaghat national Highway , traffic was stooped before the fall as it was noticed by the locals that there could be a landslide in the area , Rakesh Tiwari one of the local tells that it's raining from last couple of days and such landslide happens during these times , the roads was cleared by evening for the traffic .
