Footage shows a 24-year-old woman singing while undergoing awake brain surgery to remove a tumor in India.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Deepak Gupta asked the patient to sing during the three-hour-long surgery to relieve stress and anxiety as well as to help the medical team identify any fault in her speech.

In this clip, she sings the Hanuman Chalisa, a Hindu devotional hymn.

The young woman who is an inspiring teacher, had a tumor on the left side of the brain. Prior to the surgery, she was given a painkiller and local anesthesia injection.

The patient was kept under observation and was discharged on Saturday.

The footage was filmed at All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, on July 22.
