London's Victoria Station closed its main entrance on Sunday afternoon (July 25) due to flooding, according to eyewitnesses.

Video shows part of the ceiling dripping with water.

"Staff cordoned off the area and used machines to start to clear the spilt water," Newsflare's filmer said. "The water had flooded into many shops, including Petit Pret, causing them to use newspaper to soak up the water and they had to shut for the day. Water can still be seen dripping through many parts of the ceiling inside the station," he added.

Other commuters tweeted about the rain. @ItsMatt_Again posted: "My feet just got wet in Victoria station. Thank god I was in my docs because Victoria station had a stream running through it. London's really not built for this."

Parts of the south of England were hit by lightning storms and torrential rain on Sunday afternoon.

"Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to cause surface water flooding," the UK Met Office said as it issued an amber warning.

"Flooding of homes and businesses is likely and could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and isolated lightning strikes."

Victoria is the UK's second busiest station.
