The incredible moment a police officer kept a stabbing victim alive using an empty packet of crisps and sticky tape.
In footage taken from a body-worn camera, New York Police Department officer Ronald Kennedy was captured responding to reports of a stabbing in 290 Lennox Avenue, New York.
Upon arrival, Officer Kennedy finds a man has been injured – before he has the genius idea of using a bag of crisps and some tape as a makeshift bandage.
He empties the crisps onto the ground before instructing other officers to lay the victim down on the ground.
The victim is covered in blood, with the entry wound appearing to be on his chest.
The quick-thinking cop then uses the empty crisp packet as a barrier against the bleeding, securing it in place with sticky tape.
“We got you, stay with me,” he repeatedly says to the victim.
“Keep breathing, keep breathing.”
An ambulance then arrives and takes the victim to Harlem Hospital – where the attending physician said the actions of Officer Kennedy saved his life.
Dermot Shea, Police Commissioner of New York, described Officer Kennedy as having gone “above and beyond” and said it was “NY’s finest at work”.
