A resident in Puri, eastern India, caught a large Burmese python after casting his net in a rice field to catch some fish on July 27.

When pulling his net back in, Balaram Sahu noticed the snake had become entangled.

He called Snake Helpline for assistance and Nihar Ranjan arrived to cut free the reptile.

Ranjan patiently removed the net from around the 8-foot-long snake's body.

Subhendu Mallik, General Secretary of Snake Helpline, said: "We have rescued at least 10 Burmese pythons from that area in the last 10 years, all of which were trapped by the fishing net. As the python did not have any injury we have advised the forest officials to release it in a nearby swamp."

The snake was released back into the wild.
