Thailand’s notorious red-light district city Pattaya was deserted today following a Covid-19 third wave lockdown.

The normally-packed beachfront has been eerily quiet after a lockdown, curfew and travel ban was ordered to curb rising numbers of infections.

Pattaya attracts millions of tourists every year but after the surge in the number of cases in the province, Chonburi Communicable Disease Committee set additional measures that include shutting down beaches to reduce the close contact between people.

Thailand’s government also tightened Covid-19 restrictions in the capital, neighboring cities, and other provinces in the south after daily cases passed 10,000 a dat.

An emergency decree was also extending until September that includes nighttime curfew from 9 PM to 4 AM with travel bans between provinces and business closures.

Thailand has recorded 526,828 Covid-19 cases and 4,264 deaths.
