A kind fisherman saved a drowning dog using a raft made from trash during typhoon In-fa in the Philippines.

Jim de Paz was with his wife and child on the beach when they saw the pooch struggling to stay afloat among the mangrove trees in Cavite City, on July 26.

He waded through the water while clinging onto the floater before pulling the stranded animal with him back to safety. His family then adopted the dog which they named 'Pulot.'

His wife Shamey said: 'At first we thought it was our neighbour's dog so we ignored the barking. When we woke up in the morning, we looked for the source of the noise and found the poor dog stranded there.'

Typhoon In-fa, locally named Fabian, slowly headed to the East China Sea but continued to intensify with the monsoon maintaining heavy downpours across Luzon island. Dozens of people have since been killed in China where the typhoon caused floods.
