Eastern indigo snakes are the largest snake species native to North America and they also share burrows with tortoises.

A member of staff from Central Florida Zoo explains how in the wild the snake would share burrows with gopher tortoises.

The species are also known to eat venomous snakes in its area as they are resistant to venom.
