Alaska earthquake triggers tsunami warning and sirens sound

A magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska on Wednesday evening (July 28) triggering a tsunami warning.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the ‘notable earthquake’ hit 60 miles southeast of Chignik, Alaska at 10:15pm local time.

A tsunami warning was issued and the threat was being assessed for different regions.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) issued a warning for the U.S. state of Hawaii and the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam.
