A group of villagers in Kuturakend, Odisha, built a bridge themselves after growing tired of waiting for government help.

Footage from July 29 shows the locals using wood to craft the structure that enabled the villagers to cross a river.

During the rainy season, the river's water level rises making it difficult for anyone to enter or exit the village.

The name of the village is Kuturakend. This village is one of the inner part of Titilagarh block in Odisha state. This village is inside a dense forest. To reach the village, one has to pass through forest, hilly, unpaved road. And there are three canals in this road. Before reaching the village we have built a wooden bridge over the two-faced canal. How busy are the people of the village in their work? Who is hitting the thorns in the tree and who is walking by lifting the tree. Who is fixing the trees and who is digging the skins and burying the trees. And who is cutting the trees with the help of a saw to give the final touch? Because the villagers are engaged in making bridges by donating their labor and bringing trees from their land.

As the rainy day approaches, the condition of the villagers of Kuturakend becomes uncontrollable. There is water in three canals near the village. For three months, the villagers live in a water lock. It is difficult to meet and transport outsiders from the village.

From the MLA of Titilagarh to the state government and district administration officials demanding the construction of a bridge over the canal, the villagers are getting frustrated and donating their labor and are engaged in building the bridge themselves. During the rainy season, due to the presence of six feet of water in the canal, it becomes difficult for school children, villagers and patients to leave the village. Only then it is better not to talk about pregnant women. Frustrated after demanding a bridge from the government, the villagers are engaged in building the bridge themselves to solve some of the problems.

On the other hand, Asit Tripathi, former secretary to the government and president of the West Odisha Development Council, thanked the villagers for their work and thanked them for their great work. In the coming days, Kuturakend is reported to help build a bridge for the villagers.
