In this clip, demonstrators protest by Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, in Piccadilly Circus, London, to demand the release of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.

Footage shows demonstrators shouting "Free Julian Assange". Posters lying on the ground say "Journalism is not a crime".

Assange has been detained in the high-security Belmarsh prison since 2019.

Protests took place on Saturday (July 31), after Ecuador revoked his citizenship over claims of unpaid fees and false documents.

The United States is seeking Assange's extradition. Back in January, a UK court ruled that the WikiLeaks founder should not be extradited.
