Police in Gorur, western India, managed to rescue an abduction victim but the kidnapper escaped in the chaos.

Local police had intercepted a vehicle and managed to open the door to let the victim out of the car.

However, the driver was able to perform a u-turn and escape the authorities.

The victim was named as Anwar Kapart, 33, who had been kidnapped by his business rivals and was being taken to Bangalore.

Police managed to save an abduction victim but bumbled in letting his kidnappers escape. Hassan district police had put up a barricade to intercept a team of kidnappers at Gorur town in state of Karnataka. But they had left enough space to let the driver make a U turn and escape. A few brave cops ran to the car as it slowed down and opened the door letting the victim escape. But they were unable to nab the kidnappers.

The victim Anwar Kapart (33) had been kidnapped from Kasargod in the state of Kerala by his business rivals and was being taken to Bangalore. Kerala police had tipped off the Karnataka police about the movements of kidnappers. Two earlier attempts to set up barricades at Sakleshpur and Alur failed as the driver smashed through them. So at Gorur they parked a heavy lorry and a JCB machine across the road to stop the kidnappers. “The local police team led by Sub Inspector Sagar was brave but  they should have planned it more professionally.  They should not have left the road divider uncovered,” said a senior police officer.
