A rare funnel cloud formed over a village in the Philippines as monsoon rains battered the country this week.

Footage shows the tornado-shaped weather phenomenon connected to dark clouds and appearing to float in the air in Pura, Tarlac province on July 28.

Onlooker Roland Allan Tagata said: ‘The clouds were so dark then a tornado shaped cloud appeared in the sky. I was a bit worried that it could really be a tornado.’

The cloud lingered in the sky for almost 20 minutes before it dissipated followed by heavy downpours with strong winds.

Funnel clouds are associated with a rotating column of wind extending from the base of a cloud but do not reach the ground or water surface.
