Terrifying footage shows water overflowing onto a bridge during a strong monsoon rain in the Philippines.

Local officials were seen struggling to remove some of the debris that built up on the side of the structure in Bataan province on July 29.

The flood eventually receded but left bags of garbage and mud blocking the waterway. No one was reported hurt in the incident.

State meteorologist Manuel Esguerra Jr said the extreme weather was caused by the southwest monsoon that was strengthened by two typhoons In-fa and Cempaka that passed by the country.

He said: ‘One of the typhoons was In-fa and the other was the former low-pressure area that became typhoon Cempaka. The rain in central Luzon island is expected to last until the weekend.’

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
