A defiant couple pushed through with their wedding ceremony despite being battered with heavy rain.

Footage shows the bride and groom focused on the priest’s sermon while the tropical downpours lashed their beachfront nupitals in Oriental Mindoro province, the Philippines on July 20.

Their supportive guests could also be seen standing beside the couple while holding out umbrellas to keep them from being wet.

As the four of them huddled by the altar surrounded by empty chairs and tables, some guests had already fled into nearby huts at the resort while watching the ceremony from afar.

Wedding coordinator Jhajha Mazing said it was one of the most memorable and challenging events she handled but it ended successfully.

She said: ‘It was the first time I have hosted a wedding that was hit by heavy rain. It was inspiring and memorable but it was also challenging.’

After the unusual ceremony, the couple, their entourage and the guests proceeded with the reception at a nearby restaurant.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
