Locals were left panicked after a crocodile swam into the flood-hit city of Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh.

Footage shows a team of residents tying ropes around the reptile's body as they attempted to pull the animal from out of its hiding spot.

The crocodile was then restrained.

It is believed that rising water levels in nearby bodies of water has led to crocodiles making their way into residential areas. Officials have rescued five crocodiles that made their way into the city.

Panic ensued among the locals after wildlife creatures began to infest residential areas in central India's Madhya Pradesh on August 4. The incident took place in Shivpuri.

Visuals feature the crocodiles swimming their way into the inundated streets while no human appears outside out of fear. Meanwhile, the locals poke one of the crocodiles out of its hiding spot and secure ropes around its body to avoid any mishap. After a while, they lift the rescued reptile and click selfies with it before dropping it on the ground.

Shivpuri's Sakhya Sagar Lake is the prime habitat for the marsh crocodiles, due to which they strayed into the residential areas after the water level in the water bodies began to rise rapidly, triggering panic among locals. Forest officials have by far saved five crocodiles that swam into the streets due to proximity to the waterbody. Moreover, the sightings may increase as the vigorous monsoon has wreaked havoc on the people.
