An elephant and what appeared to be its child stopped a sugarcane lorry in India, in order to feast on its contents.

Sathyamangalam highway runs through a forest reserve. It connects Karnataka and Tamilnadu states. Wild animals often cross the highway to reach the other side of the forest.

On Friday 6 August that included an elephant, that stopped a sugarcane lorry in order to help itself to some of its tasty load.

The sweet-toothed jumbo was joined in its opportunistic snacking by a smaller elephant that may have been its child.

Another truck appeared to try and scare them off by gently reversing towards them, but neither animal moved until they had had their fill. Then they went back into the forest.

The incident caused a half hour traffic jam on the highway.
