An Indian man whose schooling ended at middle school, showed that a lack of formal education is no barrier to innovation, by building his own e-bike.

The man, who left school after 8th Standard (8th Grade in US, Year 9 in UK), modified his old bicycle into a new battery bike.

Siril Bake, 40, is resident in Harmu village in Ranchi and does small electrical jobs in his village.

He wanted to buy a motorbike but because he is poor and the price of petrol is soaring, he decided to use his electrical skill to make an e-bike instead.

His bike can run 40km with a single charge, at speeds of up to 30km/hr.

Local youngsters are so impressed they now come to him to build one for them too.

Siril says he is now planning to design an electric rickshaw, to drive it and earn more money.
